Haemorrhoids are a common occurrence during pregnancy and after birth, they are the swelling of veins around the anus. Some studies estimate up to 40% of pregnant women experience haemorrhoids at some point during their pregnancy, if you have them at the moment, remember you are certainly not alone. The haemorrhoids can be caused by the general weight of carrying your growing baby putting pressure on your pelvic floor as well as the associated pregnancy hormones.

If you are experiencing haemorrhoids or want to prevent them, it is important to avoid standing or sitting in the same position for too long, keep moving to maintain healthy blood flow and relieve excess pressure on your pelvic floor. Eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fibre and drink lots of water which should help reduce straining when using the toilet. You could also speak to a health professional for personal advice, your midwife, health visitor, GP or pharmacist will all be able to help and advise you on how to make your situation easier. There are no magic cures for haemorrhoids, they will usually go away on their own a while after your baby is born, however, there are products available to soothe them and make them easier to live with.

This large 650ml capacity peri bottle allows you to fill it with warm water or a magic solution of your choice to soothe and cleanse yourself after going to the toilet. Using this bottle will help you avoid touching the piles/haemorrhoids with tissue paper which can cause irritation and unnecessary discomfort. Available in a choice of pink or blue.

Sitz Bath

Simply place on your toilet, fill with approximately two litres of water and soak your haemorrhoids several times each day. Some people like to add Epsom salts or even ice to the Sitz Bath, you do what is right for you, everyone is different. This is a super easy-to-use piece of equipment that allows you to soak several times each day without the need to fully undress.

Witch Hazel Pads

Witch Hazel has been used to help soothe haemorrhoids for centuries. This handy flip-lid tub contains 40 soft cotton pads that are great to be used as a compress to soothe those pesky piles. Place a pad on the haemorrhoid and leave it in place for as long as possible, you can also use it to wipe the area. For external use only. Do not use on broken skin.
